Stripped for Parts: Daytime Conversation
RegisterDaytime Screening and Conversation
Buell Public Media Center, Denver | 90 Minutes
Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Join us for an afternoon of film, popcorn, and conversation as we screen Stripped for Parts, a documentary that follows journalists fighting to save local news from corporate extraction.
Hedge fund Alden Global Capital has quietly acquired hundreds of newspapers across the country—cutting staff, draining resources, and hollowing out local reporting. In Stripped for Parts, journalist Julie Reynolds investigates what’s really happening behind these acquisitions, uncovering a nationwide pattern that sparks newsroom rebellions and public reckoning.
Following the screening, we’ll gather for a community conversation focused on:
- Why local journalism matters to democracy and daily life
- How hedge fund ownership impacts trust, accountability, and civic connection
- What current media consolidation efforts—including the proposed TEGNA deal—could mean for our local news ecosystem
- How communities can engage, ask questions, and support strong local reporting
This afternoon session is designed as a welcoming, accessible space for neighbors, community members, students, and anyone who cares about the future of local news—no media background required.
Popcorn, cookies and sodas provided.
