DENVER — Responsible for administering approximately 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses, all six state-run mass vaccination sites are closing by the Fourth of July.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), about 12 percent of all vaccine doses in the state were administered at these sites. Most of the sites have already stopped administering vaccines, with primary care physicians, pharmacies, and other approved administrators taking over the vaccine effort.

“This will help establish a more long-term, sustainable model for vaccinating more Coloradans and for any potential for booster vaccinations in the future,” CDPHE said in a news release.

Below is a list of the mass vaccination sites, along with the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered as of June 27:

  • Adams County: Dick’s Sporting Good Park, closing June 29 — 90,042 doses
  • Denver County: Ball Arena, closing July 3 — 91,492 doses
  • El Paso County: Broadmoor World Arena, closed June 27 — 63,698 doses
  • Larimer County: The Ranch, closed June 25 — 60,657 doses
  • Mesa County: Grand Junction Convention Center, closed June 12 — 39,753 doses
  • Pueblo County: Colorado State Fairgrounds, closed June 14 — 44,434 doses

The news of the closures comes a little over two months after all six sites opened to walk-in patients. At the time, thousands of appointments were available each day.

CDPHE said the reason for closing the sites is because nearly 70% of Coloradans ages 18 and up are vaccinated against COVID-19, a figure Governor Jared Polis referenced in the latest “Colorado Comeback Cash” announcement.

And although the U.S. appears fated to fall short of Biden’s goal of vaccinating 70% of American adults by July 4, Colorado officials appear confident the state will achieve that mark. At least a dozen states already have.

As of June 28, there are a dozen Colorado counties in which 70% of residents have at least one dose. Those counties make up about a third of the state’s population. Douglas County, with a 69.4% vaccination rate, is poised to become the next county to cross that milestone.

The county with the highest vaccination rate is San Juan County (92.4%) and the county with the lowest is Crowley County (18.9%). More data is available here.
