ANNOUNCEMENT
DENVER — Rocky Mountain PBS journalists and producers won six Heartland Emmy awards Saturday across several categories, including longform documentary.

In total, producers took home 14 statues — a record for the station — for their work on longform documentaries as well as news features focusing on under-reported communities across the Rocky Mountain region. The station was nominated for a total of 17 Emmys, including “Station of the Year.”

The wins came just days after Congress voted to rescind funds allotted to PBS and NPR, making the future of public media, including Rocky Mountain PBS, uncertain.

In an open letter, Rocky Mountain Public Media President and CEO Amanda Mountain affirmed that RMPBS’s focus remains on producing high-quality media with integrity.

“I want to assure you that Rocky Mountain Public Media will continue to be a service for all Coloradans regardless of political beliefs or ability to financially support just as we have for nearly 70 years,” Mountain said.

The RMPBS newsroom features 14 full-time multimedia journalists, producers and editors who publish daily stories and videos showing the impact of decisions and events on our friends and neighbors in Colorado outside of the breaking news format.

Durango-based multimedia journalist Ziyi Xu, northern Colorado multimedia journalist Cormac McCrimmon, Denver-based multimedia journalist Peter Vo, managing producer Amanda Horvath, senior producer Andrea Kramar and senior video editor Melanie Towler were all first-time winners.

Editor Scott Hennelly and graphic artist Del Rocha won for their collaboration on Colorado Experience’s Season 11 trailer.
