Web Style Guide for creating news posts.

Checklist

Follow this quick checklist as you build your posts. More details can be found in the sections below.


See the Web Style Guide for image and accessibility guidelines.

  • Images: add alt text for each image in the Asset Library
  • Featured images are best at 1200x675px or similar proportion and without text.
  • Title: keep to 60 characters or less
  • URL: remove unneeded words and characters (keep as short as possible while still being unique)
  • Text: avoid using all caps in content
  • Branding: use RMPBS, RMPBS KIDS, KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP 104.7
  • Headings: follow heading heirarchy and only use H1 for the page title
  • Mobile: check the mobile view and make needed adjustments

Steps

Follow these general steps to create a news post.

Note

You can start fresh with a new post (using a template if desired), or copy a similar post and update the necessary details.

Steps:

Upload Images

  1. Go to the Asset Library and click on Upload Files
  2. Select the image/file from your computer
  3. Once uploaded, select the Edit Asset icon under the uploaded image
  4. Enter alternative text into the Alt Text field

Create a News Post

  1. Under Content and Section models, select News
  2. Click on New Entry > News
  3. In the top left, under Content Entry Name, add the text [News] followed by the post title
  4. Under the Options tab, add the post title to the Title field
  5. The slug is the url and is auto populated with what is added to the title field. Remove any extra words (such as and, to, or) and special characters (such as |, &, :)
  6. Under Image, select Change Photo and select the featured image you uploaded to the Asset Library
  7. Image caption is optional
  8. Under Date, select the day and time for this post
  9. Under Short description, add the first sentence of the post (unless otherwise indicated in the task request)
  10. Under Category, select the main category first. You can add more categories if needed
  11. Add Author, or Staff Member Author (you can have both, or multiple in each).
  12. To remove the Oops message in the content, click on Publish, use the upper left arrow to back out of the page, and select the page title you just created

Video

Video embed to be used for YouTube, Vimeo, JW Player and pbs (Media Manager).

Note

Video embed should always be used moving forward. Do no use other options such as Media > Video or Embed or Custom Code).

Steps:

  1. Under the Insert tab expand Custom Components and drag Video embed to the content area
  2. With Video embed selected, go to the Options tab, select the Provider from the dropdown
  3. Past in the url of the video into the Video URL field
  4. Add the title of the video to the Title field


Audio

Use SG Recast for creating embeddable audio players.

StreamGuys Steps:

  1. Login to the StreamGuys Console here https://kuvo-recast.streamguys1.com/
  2. Follow the tutorial Creating an Audio Player in SG Recast to create the audio embed

Builder Steps:

  1. Under the Insert tab, expand Code and drag Custom Code to the content area.
  2. With Custom Code selected, go to the Options tab and paste in the iframe code that you created

Spotify

By the Artist

Add a Spotify playlist that has been generated by the artist.


Note: content creators will provide the url

Steps:

  • Under the Insert tab and under Media, drag Embed to the content area
  • Under Options, copy and paste the playlist url into the Url field
