Season 1994 Episode 3630 | 4m 20s

As talk of the impact of the Tea Party shapes the primary and general election mid-terms this year, we take a look back to 1994. With Republicans capturing the House for the first time in nearly a half century and Bill Clinton's presidency on the rocks, there was buzz about whether Colin Powell could emerge as an independent or third-party candidate to challenge Clinton for re-election in 1996.

Major funding for “Washington Week with The Atlantic” is provided by Consumer Cellular, Otsuka, Kaiser Permanente, the Yuen Foundation, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
