New Targeted Treatments Extend the Lives of Patients with Deadly Cancers

When Walter White is diagnosed with lung cancer at the start of the television series Breaking Bad, it’s understood as a death sentence.

Chemotherapy, radiation or surgery have traditionally been the only options available to patients with this disease, and they often don’t work very well.

But new drugs are extending the lives of some patients with lung cancer by drilling down to the specific mutations in their cancers. Kristin Jones of Rocky Mountain PBS I-News visited patients at the University of Colorado Cancer Center in Aurora and has this report.
