RMPBS KIDS Connect: Got Plans This Summer?
Go On A Creature Adventure, Build A Reading Chart & More
May is here, so we’re excited about everything we’re going to learn and enjoy as the unofficial start of summer approaches! You might start with the PBS KIDS Summer Activity Book now available – in English or Spanish — for fun with all your favorite characters. If you’re hitting the highway, take a printable “Wowsabout” Road Trip Bingo Card to help you keep an eye out for wonderful things to see!
In the United States, now is also a time to celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Month. Watch a clip about this month honoring the accomplishments of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders while celebrating their diverse heritages. Browse these children’s books titles as another way to enjoy this heritage month..
Cinco de Mayo Celebrated This Week
Many communities around Colorado held celebrations throughout the weekend to honor this holiday centered around heritage and history. Dancers from the In Lak’ech Denver Arts Youth Folklorico program perform at last year’s Cinco de Mayo en Westwood event in the photo above by Carly Rose of Rocky Mountain PBS.
As another way to join the celebration on Tuesday, watch this “All About the Holidays” clip as a family to learn about the significance of Cinco de Mayo for Mexican Americans. Especially with the little ones in your life, you could also try to make Rosita's Mango Salsa from Sesame Street. With older children, enjoy a retrospective from RMPBS archives of Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Denver, Pueblo and the San Luis Valley.
