‘It’s how we heal:’ Survivors deliver truckloads of aid to Boulder police
BOULDER, Colo. — Truckloads of drinks and snacks arrived at the Boulder Police Department headquarters Wednesday morning, collected by mass shooting survivors who wanted to help.
“It’s how we heal, it’s how we move forward. Helping others and doing things like this,” Mike Grapner said.
Grapner said he and his wife Jennifer survived the 2017 Route 91 mass shooting in Las Vegas.
They organized relief drives for first responders during last year’s wildfires, and quickly decided to do the same after learning of the mass shooting at a Boulder King Soopers on Monday. 10 people were murdered in the attack, including Officer Eric Talley.
Grapner described seeing the images of the incident in Boulder as "a kick in the teeth."
Over the course of about eight hours on Tuesday, Grapner said the community donated several truckloads full of supplies, after people spread the word on social media.
“When you want to do good things, people respond,” he said.
If others want to respond in the same way, Boulder is asking people to schedule food donations in advance.
