Community Guidelines

Rocky Mountain Public Media Community Guidelines

Our Community Purpose
Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM) exists to serve the people of Colorado through trusted journalism, meaningful storytelling, and community connection.

Our comment spaces are intended to foster thoughtful, respectful conversation between community members and our journalists. When these spaces work well, they help strengthen public understanding, improve our reporting, and build a stronger civic commons.

Participation in our community requires shared responsibility. Because public media works best when everyone contributes constructively.

Expectations for Participation

We welcome a wide range of viewpoints. However, participation in RMPM comment spaces requires that conversations remain:

  • Respectful
  • Relevant to the topic
  • Grounded in good faith
  • Constructive to the community
  • Comments that undermine these principles may be removed.
  • Prohibited Content
  • We do not permit content that:
  • Violates any applicable law or promotes illegal activity
  • Contains pornography or explicit sexual content
  • Includes sexual or suggestive content involving minors
  • Encourages or incites violence or dangerous acts
  • Threatens, harasses, bullies, or intimidates others
  • Contains hate speech or slurs targeting individuals or groups
  • Promotes violence or hatred based on protected characteristics, including race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity
  • Doxes individuals or shares private or confidential information
  • Impersonates another person or organization
  • Is spam, commercial promotion, or repetitive posting
  • Is clearly off-topic or intended to disrupt conversation

We reserve the right to remove content that, in our judgment, undermines the health of the community conversation.

Moderation Approach

RMPM uses a combination of automated tools and human review to moderate comments.

Our moderation goals are to:

  • Protect participants
  • Maintain constructive dialogue
  • Support civil disagreement
  • Uphold public media standards
  • Moderation actions may include:
  • Comment removal
  • Comment editing (where appropriate)
  • Temporary suspension
  • Permanent account restriction
  • Repeated or severe violations may result in loss of commenting privileges.
  • Good Faith Participation
  • We encourage community members to:
  • Engage the ideas, not the person
  • Contribute new information or perspective
  • Ask sincere questions
  • Cite sources when making factual claims
  • Help maintain a welcoming civic space
  • Strong disagreement is welcome. Personal attacks are not.

Publisher Responsibilities

Rocky Mountain Public Media is committed to maintaining active moderation practices to ensure community content aligns with these guidelines and our public service mission.

We will regularly review and refine our moderation practices to support healthy community dialogue.
