Fruita's Pedaling Peeps
For 27 years, George Gatseos of Over the Edge Fruita has run this legendary destination mountain bike store that sells, rents and repairs bikes.
“I stood on Aspen Avenue in Fruita in 1995, and I knew I just liked it,” says George. “The people were nice; the downtown was cool, and I could see the trails were going to be awesome.” Over the Edge exists to support local and visiting riders, setting them up for success on the trails in Colorado’s Grand Valley.
George has lived most of his life in Colorado and is a graduate of Colorado Mesa University. He was on the vanguard of the mountain bike movement that got its start in the 80s.
“I just loved the bike stores I went to as a kid,” he says. “The smells of new tires, all the shiny bikes and the pictures of people riding their mountain bikes off-road were exciting.”
Now, Over the Edge has shops in Hurricane, Utah, Melrose, Australia and Todos Santos, Mexico.
What’s the one constant for all these locations? “We get to help people have fun,” says George. “To earn a living doing that is amazing.”
