Littleton front porch becomes special place for letters to Santa
LITTLETON, Colo. — Showing a little kindness, bringing a new tradition to the community, and keeping the magic alive doesn’t take much to make a big impact.
Twinkle the elf knows that, and so does Amanda Segebart. Twinkle brought a special mailbox for letters to Santa to Segebart’s front porch in Littleton. Kids in the area can drop off their letters to Santa and get a response back.
“It’s just an honor that my front porch gets to be one of those special places,” said Segebart. “I grew up in this community ... [and] with COVID and things happening and things just not being quite normal, maybe we’ve lost a little bit of that magic of not being able to visit Santa Claus or go to the places and do the traditions we’ve always been able to do. So, to be able to provide some sort of new excitement or something, a new experience surrounding Christmas is pretty special.”
Twinkle first brought the mailbox to 7723 West Coal Mine Place last year. More than 150 kids dropped off letters to Santa through this mailbox in 2020, all while Twinkle kept a close eye on them.
Segebert told Rocky Mountain PBS she expects to see the same number of letters or perhaps a little more pass through the mailbox this year.
“To help keep the Christmas spirit alive, just be open to opportunities to give to other people,” explained Segebert. “If that means saying ‘hello’ to somebody extra at the grocery store or if that means you pay some kindness forward by buying somebody’s coffee in line. Just thinking of those little things, big or small, to make somebody else’s day.”
The letters range from asking Santa questions about his life to explaining they have been good this year to a list of what they would like for Christmas this year.
“Whatever we can do day to day to kind of keep that Christmas spirit going is pretty important,” said Segebert. “A happy time of year and to be able to provide kids with a spot to drop a letter and make it as festive as possible is fun.”
