Gov. Polis holds night of remembrance on 1 year anniversary of COVID-19 in Colorado
DENVER — To mark one year since Colorado confirmed its first COVID-19 case, Governor Jared Polis invited Coloradans across the state to join in on a virtual "Evening of Remembrance."
To date, nearly 6,000 Coloradans have died from COVID-19. More than 430,000 people in the state have contracted the virus in the last calendar year.
At 6:30 p.m. on March 5, Governor Polis delivered an address to the state about COVID-19. Rocky Mountain PBS streamed the address live on our Facebook page.
Before that, a WWII-era aircraft performed a flyover over the state capitol building at 4:30 p.m.
Here is more information on the event from the governor’s office:
If you have building lights, turn them magenta at 6:00 PM. Magenta represents universal love: compassion and kindness.
If communities are able to and feel it's safe, that police and fire departments turn their lights on at 6:00 PM for one minute.
