Next time you’re in the Mile High City, watch out for ghosts

DENVER — You’re walking through Union Station and feel a chill in the air, a shift in the energy — the air conditioning? Could be. The breeze trickling inside as travelers enter and exit the station? Perhaps.
However, the most likely option, according to Dark Side of Denver tour guide Rachel Beckemeyer, is that you’re experiencing the stirrings of a spirit that haunts Union Station — apparently, there are many of them. The city transit hub is one of several stops on a local ghost tour that takes the paranormal-curious through several apparition hot-spots Downtown.
Stops on the tour include a secret speakeasy, a beloved local bookshop and a western wear store that played a role in one of Denver’s darkest pieces of history. According to Beckemeyer, every walking tour is a unique experience.
“The spirits have a mind of their own,” said Beckemeyer. “That’s what makes the tours so fun, because I never know what’s going to happen which makes it fun for me and the participants.”
Beckemeyer says the walking tour has become a popular option for birthdays, bachelorette parties, and corporate events. The tours happen year-round.
For spooky season, Rocky Mountain PBS joined Beckemeyer’s tour to take a look for ourselves:
