Community Conversation Series

share

Everyday Democracy: Stories That Build Us is a four-part film and conversation series from Rocky Mountain Public Media’s Above the Noise initiative.

This series is about sharing an experience together and practicing how we talk with one another.

From February through mid-April, we invite people to attend all four gatherings. Each event builds on the last and offers a chance to practice listening, curiosity, and respect over time.Coming to the full series is the point of the series.

Each gathering begins with a documentary film about everyday life in our communities. The films explore themes like care, work, belonging, childhood, and access to information. Some of these topics may affect you directly. Others may not. All of them shape the places we live.

After the film, people move into small group conversations with the goal to listen, ask questions, and better understand one another.

We encourage people to come with an open mind and consider bringing someone who thinks differently than they do. This might be a friend, a family member, a coworker, or a neighbor. Talking across difference is a skill, and like any skill, it gets stronger with practice.

In a time when many people feel divided or disconnected, this series offers a chance to slow down and connect face to face. We believe democracy begins in everyday moments when people show up, listen, empathize, and stay in conversation with one another.

Rocky Mountain Public Media is grateful to partner with local organizations and individuals across Colorado. We approach this work with humility, trusting that communities know themselves best and will shape conversations that reflect their own strengths and struggles. People may leave with a new perspective, a new connection, or simply a deeper sense of belonging.

You are welcome to join us for one event.

We hope you will join us for all four.
