Meet the Cast

How does it feel to play a supermodel? Or a sleazy talk-show host? Some of the actors you met in TV Confidential let you know how it felt to play their parts and what they were thinking about when they created the video. Read below to learn about these actor’s and what they think:

Joey Sellar
Rick Lawson
RICK LAWSON
Joey Sellar

RICK LAWSON
Rick became an actor rather late in life—with his first performance occurring at age 28, but he fell in love with all aspects of live theater. Since that first performance, Rick, in addition to acting, has become a writer, producer and director. Rick feels that acting has its own set of challenges and rewards and notes that each actor must find the part of himself that he shares with a character to create a reality.

As he worked to find Joey Sellar within himself, Rick notes that he was forced to examine aspects of Joey’s personality that were allowed to surface. Rick admits that the character of Joey Sellar was the first character he has played that he could not find something, anything, to like.

Choppy Noodles
Corey Jones
COREY JONES
Federico, director

COREY JONES
Corey Jones has twelve years acting experience, with the last five years including work in educational theater. Two of these years have been acting with the Kaiser Permanente educational theater group.

Corey enjoyed playing the part of Federico because he got to exaggerate a number of personality traits in one character. He acknowledges that he took the character of Federico “all the way” and made him an extreme character. Corey also enjoyed the improvisational aspect of the production.

Princess McClure
PRINCESS McCLURE
Charlotte Brittany

PRINCESS McCLURE
Princess is a veteran stage actor, having appeared in her first national tour at age 16. Since then she has appeared in countless musicals across the country as well as several commercials. She also appeared in the first media literacy video, TV Planet. She drew on her experience as a model to help her better understand the Charlotte Brittany character.

Princess enjoyed playing a character who changed from quiet and shy, without her make-up, to a diva supermodel. Princess feels that Charlotte is very insecure and needs her glamorous hair and make-up to turn her into something she wasn’t. Princess related to her character’s insecurities, and acknowledges that everyone has insecurities, even supermodels—and everyone just demonstrates their insecurities in different ways.

Stephen Shern
STEPHEN SHERN
Food Stylist

STEPHEN SHERN
Stephen Shern is a food stylist and a professional chef who has worked from coast to coast. In 1985, Stephen went to Hollywood where he began designing food for cookbooks, movies and television, including commercials. Stephen concedes that his profession is about making food look more perfect than it is, but cautions that not every commercial employs all of the weird techniques shown in the Choppy Noodles segment.

Becky Toma
BECKY TOMA
Myra Tearknuckle

BECKY TOMA
Becky has an extensive history in the entertainment field in the Denver area. A graduate of Colorado Women’s College, Becky currently serves as the technical director for the Kaiser Permanente Educational theater in addition to being a performer.

Becky enjoyed playing Myra. She felt that Myra seems to be a typical advertising client in that she is so enthusiastic about her product. In addition, Myra knows her limitations and trusts her advertising agency to market her product in the best possible way. Ultimately, Myra is swept away by the show business aspect of shooting a commercial.

Glenna Kelly

GLENNA KELLY
News Director

GLENNA KELLY
Glenna has an illustrious history of performance in the Denver area. Her roles range from musicals to Shakespearean heroines onstage and she has done a variety of instructional, promotional and commercial films. In addition to her performance work she also serves as the Community Service Program Coordinator at Kaiser Permanente. This role entails organizing all of Kaiser Permanente’s community service programs, including their educational theater.

Glenna disliked her character of the News Director. She felt the News Director was upfront about the manipulation she was perpetrating on the audience and seemed to feel that there was nothing wrong with that. Glenna felt that her character was superficial yet honest about what she was doing and the purpose of news coverage being to sell the audience to the advertisers. Glenna appreciated the opportunity to learn for herself the real intentions and the covert tactics used to get the audience to watch and then manipulate them throughout the newscast. She says that she watches the news now with a different understanding and considers herself a more literate consumer having taken part in the video.

Paul Neal Rohrer
PAUL NEAL ROHRER
News Producer

PAUL NEAL ROHRER
Paul Rohrer has been a professional actor for over 20 years. He began his career onstage and moved to commercials and films after 16 years. He has studied his craft with leading leaders of the industry. In addition to acting, Paul works as a public speaker for a variety of companies, including IBM and Hewlett-Packard.
