Coming up this week, I've got three things of note to highlight:
-Hispanic Heritage Month begins today (September 15-October 15). Check out our lineup of related programming at
rmpbs.org/Hispanic.
-Tonight at 8, "
Retirement Revolution: The New Reality" – I may be far from retirement age, but it'll be well worth my time if I take away even one piece of advice.
-This Saturday, we pay tribute to the legendary Julia Child (1912-2004), a PBS icon for so many years. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., tune in for "The Classic Julia Marathon," a four-hour cooking special.
Sure, Meryl Streep was brilliant in "Julie & Julia," but nothing compares to the real deal. As part of Saturday's marathon, we'll air "
Julia and Jacques: Cooking at Home" and do live cooking demonstrations featuring some of Julia's favorite recipes.
I hope they do
Beef Bourguignon. I found the classic recipe and great articles about Julia here.
Ever since I was a kid, I remember watching – and loving – Julia Child. She made me feel so welcome, like I was her little helper, right by her side. When she stirred those bubbling stews and peeled those potatoes, so did I. There was this hypnotic way about her, and to this day, I never tire of classic Julia reruns.
Thought I'd share three Julia Child quotes I love:
"The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook."
"Always remember: If you're alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up. Who's going to know?"
"If you're in a good profession, it's hard to get bored, because you're never finished – there will always be work you haven't done."
Do you have a favorite Julia Child quote, recipe or TV moment?
