NOW ONLINE: 1/2 hour sneak peek preview
of Ken Burns' "The National Parks: America's Best Idea." The 12-hour, 6-part series airs September 27-October 2 at 8 p.m. on Rocky Mountain PBS.
Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature's most spectacular locales – from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon -
"The National Parks: America's Best Idea" is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background – rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. It is a story full of struggle and conflict, ideals and opportunism, adventure and inspiration – set against the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

Too short. But of course I will watch the program, or tape it for later. Burns always does an exceptional job. Our family has over 45 years visited many of the National Parks. They are America's legacy. Thanks to Theodore Roosevelt!

One disappointment will be the National Parks program won't be in HD from what I understand, at least not on Rocky Mountain PBS. It just won't be the same. I just image all the wonderful beautiful programs on Discovery channel that are HD.
