As filed with the Federal Communications Commission, our dates for cessation of Analog high-power program transmission are:
KTSC/Channel 8 – May 26, 2009 at 9 a.m.
KRMA/Channel 6 – June 12, 2009 at midnight
KRMA will remain in "Statutory Analog Nightlight Service" until July 12, 2009. Statutory Analog Nightlight Service consists of notification information to inform viewers where and how to receive the broadcast programming of Rocky Mountain PBS, now being broadcast exclusively in Digital.
In August 2009, KRMA will increase power of our digital signal from our site on Mt. Morrison from 315kW ERP to 1,000kW (1MW or 1 million watts) We will also begin broadcasting with a new antenna from the top of the tower on Mt. Morrison which, coupled with the increase in power should resolve most of the signal reception problems our viewers experience with in our coverage area.
KRMA digital will continue to transmit on broadcast channel 18, and our KRMA viewers will continue to tune to "Channel 6" (6-1, 6-2, and 6-3) to receive our KRMA programming.
On June 12, 2009 KTSC will change the transmitted channel from our interim 26 back to broadcast channel 8. Viewers will need to rescan their receivers to continue to receive KTSC digital broadcasts and since this is a change from UHF to VHF our viewers will need an antenna capable of receiving VHF broadcast channels. Following a rescan of their receivers KTSC viewers will continue to tune to "Channel 8" (8-1, 8-2, and 8-3) to receive our KTSC programming.
The week of March 23, we will be working in Grand Junction to repair the KRMJ transmitter part that will allow us to move our digital transmitter from broadcast channel 17, up to our permanent channel 18 assignment. We expect the channel change to occur on Thursday March 26, before we get into prime time programming. Due to the complexity of the repairs we are uncertain of the exact time. We will be off air for 10 to 15 minutes while we actually change the channel.
Viewers will need to rescan their receivers to continue to receive KRMJ digital broadcasts. Following a rescan of their receivers KRMJ viewers will continue to tune to "Channel 18" (18-1, 18-2, and 18-3) to receive our KRMJ programming.
