NAFTA has contributed to the current economic difficulties for the Mexican workers. It is disingenuous to pretend that Mexican economic woes are their own doing. We have undermined their agricultural sector and their small business sector and have filled the coffers of CArgill, Archer Daniels Midland and Walmart.

I watched your program via immigration. I am sick and tired of hearing about why not close the boarders, illegals etc. I am an american of mexican decent born in this country 3rd generation. Why don't these people unite and take over their own conunty and make things right. I realize that it will take years to do that but they have to start somewhere instead of bleeding this country. Many of them do not respect our laws or care. In past years I was insulted when I was refered as a Chicano. Today I am insulted because I'm asked if I speak english. I long to be called a Chicano again. I constantly hear "who is going to pick the lettuce"? Who cares, we as americans will adjust to prices, labor issues or not buy the product. These people do not come over here to pick the lettuce, they come for the higher paying jobs and reduce wages because of their willingness to work at a lower rate. I am sick and tired of hearing all of these bleeding hearts say the same things over and over again about how to deal with the immigration problem. Heck, everything they have tried has not worked and will not work and as long as we welcome illeagles with open arms. these people will never attempt to solve the problems in their own countrie (s), as long as this country provides the means for them. I am for closing their ability to exist in this country and eventually many will go home using their own resources and not ours and possibly the flow will slow down and maybe even stop. I went into the military during the Nam era in support of the american way of life and americans and not illegals. Get them the hell out of here and let me live as an american. When I go shopping I have to read english and spanish on many of the products because they don't bother to learn english. I watching television at this moment, 6:33 am and It's in spanish. Why? This is america not another country. I can remember when my daughter was in high school and she made several attempts to secure employment and was turned down because she could not speak spanish. To this day I am P.O.ed and bitter. Several days ago I walked into a Carl's burger stand and walked away with a sour taste in my mouth because one of the employees had their children running around the kitchen area playing with items in the kitchen. There was no regard for safety or sanitation. I did order what I wanted but I was not a happy camper. Apparently this employee could not secure a baby sitter so she has them at work. As an american I could not get away with that. As I write this letter I am just cringing watching your television station. Your probably saying why dosen't he just change the channel? The reason is because this kind of programing is food for thought as to why I will not watch this channel. I have been effected by illegals in many ways. I received less than acceptable treatment from the Colorado State employees when I applied for a drivers license at Mississippi and Zuni streets vs how the non english speaking cliant (s) were recieved. I don't know if these people are here legally or not but the treatment was less than acceptable and I know illegals whom have received illegal drivers licenses using someone elses birth cirtificate. I am still in awe over this incident. I use to know many american born individuals in the construction trades and today I don't know any american born people in the trades because the wages have been vastly reduced. The contractors that I do know continue to bid the jobs using american wages in their bids and paying illegals lower wages so that theory about cheaper housing is jus bunk. Also I am extreamly fluent in spanish (reading, speaking and able to understand the different litano cultures etc) , and I do come in contact with illegal alians and its their notion that if they eventuall unite and not work for their present wages that contractors will eventually pay what american craftsman were earning. I can go on and on with the problems that the illegals are responsible for. But the bleeding hearts are blindsided because their only concern is for the problem to continue for the sake of a job on their part. ie no problem, no job for them. I am now watching the channel 7 news and the news subject is the closeure of a road at the Cherry Creek Dam. The person in the orange vest, holding the detour sign and not allowing cars to go through the road cannot speak english very well. Deep down I can almost guess what this individuals status is because a lot of those jobs are farmed out and the state has no control who works those positions. It is my opine that some student on summer break should be the one filling that position. If this individuals status is other than legal in this country he should not have this job. I will close for now and hold my peace for now. My only comment is send them back home and let their governments take care of them. ajr P.S. this note has not been proof read because right now I'm seeing red, so please forgive the misspelling and possibly missed letters. ajr
