I would like to honor my great grand Uncle who served his country in the Civil war along with his brother William H. Akers, my great grand father.
The discharge of Uncle Amos reads as follows:
"I certify, on honor, that Amos A. Akers, Company (F) of the 94 Regiment of Infantry Volunteers, of the State of Ohio who joined for service and was enrolled on the 26th day of July, 1862, at Greenville, Ohio by Lieut. Fornbison, for the period of three years, and mustered into the service of the United States on the 23d day of August, 1862, at Piqua Ohio, by Capt Drake; and having served Honestly and Faithfully with his Company to the present date, is now entitled to a discharge by reason of Death -
Died June 10, 1864 at Andersonville Prison, Georgia while a Prisoner of war."
