Rocky Mountain PBS Earns Two Emmy Awards For 'La Raza de Colorado: El Movimiento'

Last week, Rocky Mountain PBS won two Heartland Region Emmy awards for its original documentary, "La Raza de Colorado: El Movimiento."

Lisa D. Olken, who produced, directed, edited and wrote the film, received the Emmy for Director—Individual Craft. The film also earned an Emmy in the Historical Documentary category. In addition to Olken, personnel involved in the project include:

Janine White—Photographer and High Definition Colorist
Daniel Mercure—High Definition Editor
Angela Forster—Art Director
Donna Sanford—Director of Production and Programming

Olken and Rocky Mountain PBS also won a Heartland Region Emmy last year for episode one of the "La Raza" series, "La Historia."

"La Raza de Colorado" is a factual celebration of the life, culture and history of Latinos in Colorado. "El Movimiento" focuses on the Chicano movement during the turbulent 1960s and 1970s. Chicano groups in Colorado mobilized to fight for fair treatment of farm workers, following César Chávez's famous boycotts, and they fought for ownership of land their ancestors had occupied for hundreds of years. Through riveting first-hand accounts, "El Movimiento" speaks to the significant social issues of our time — empowerment, identity, racial conflict, civil rights and cultural pride.
