A storybook tornado blows into the library and makes a terrible mess. This happens after Theo reads "pecos Bill Cleans Up the West" to Leona and Lionel before they go to bed. The next day Lionel asks Click to prove to Leona that Pecos Bill is just a fictional character. All of the various segments presented in the episode focus on the use of the short e in words such as west, bed, mess, bet, etc. Dr. Bertice Berry and Dr. Ruth Westheimer guest star.
