Trinidad, En Plein Air
Watercolorist and oil painter, Frank LaLumia, demonstrates his command of both mediums with an on-location watercolor demonstration, painting the historic buildings of Trinidad, CO. We then travel to Three Ponds Farm in central Michigan for a short demonstration in oils. Frank discusses his life as a professional landscape artist and we visit his home/studio overlooking the Sangre de Christo Mountains in Southern Colorado. Viewers also visit The Irvine Museum in Southern California, home to an extensive collection of paintings by the famous California impressionists and plein air painters of the early 20th century. Jean Stern, Executive Director, author and art historian, provides insights to plein air painting in America and introduces viewers to works by William Wendt, Guy Rose, Alston Clarke and the other plein air artists featured in The Irvine Museum collection.
