La Cultura de San Luis
Settlers from northern New Mexico arrived in the arid San Luis Valley in 1859. They carried their culture with them and used irrigation to turn desert into farmland. Their descendants carry on centuries old traditions: the weaver passes her craft to her grandchildren; work by a Santo carver reveals his deep spirituality; a farmer explains his respect for the water and a Penitente his religious tradition.
