Fluent Reading
The third episode explores another milestone in a young reader's development – the ability to decode quickly and achieve fluency. Fluency means reading without hesitation or false starts and with good inflection that can only come from knowing the meaning of words. Hosted by Deborah Norville, host of "Inside Edition" and the author of two children's books, and Theo the Lion from BETWEEN THE LIONS, this episode highlights successful strategies for helping children become fluent readers and demonstrates how early testing and intervention can help struggling readers. Program footage features young readers from Mississippi to Vermont. The episode includes an interview with William Joyce, the best-selling and award-winning author of "George Shrinks" and more than a dozen other children's books, including "Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo," "Santa Calls" and "Rolie Polie Olie."
