The Roots of Reading
The late Fred Rogers, of MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD, hosts the series' premiere, which examines the miracle of reading, one step at a time. From a "baby speech lab" in British Columbia to a Head Start center in New York, this episode explores early stages of literacy and offers concrete suggestions for parents, caregivers and teachers. The episode also features a profile of award-winning children's book author Rosemary Wells and a behind-the-scenes look at her private studio. Wells' career as an author spans 30 years and 60 books, including "Timothy Goes to School," "Max Cleans Up" and "Emily's First 100 Days of School."
