Out of Left Field: The Making of the Chinese Olympic Baseball Team A former Major League Baseball manager, Jim Lefebvre, and a Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame pitcher, Bruce Hurst, take on the toughest task of their careers - to turn China's fledgling National Baseball Team into a contender for the 2008 Olympic Games. This is a story of two divergent nations united by America's Pastime. It's about underdogs, world-class dreams, high-stakes risks and Olympic glory - a seat-of-the-pants story that captures the imagination and the heart. What started four years ago with a phone call from an office not far from China's Forbidden City to a retired Major League Baseball manager in Scottsdale, Ariz., ends in August 2008 when outmatched Chinese baseball players - along with their American coaches - step onto an Olympic baseball diamond and make history.
