Mike is surprised when Laura announces one evening that she is going out to dinner with a publisher called Charles Payne – a suave, well? dressed man who brings Laura an orchid when he comes to collect her. Mike is not convinced that Charles and Laura are going out purely to discuss business. Next morning Mike learns from Laura that she will no longer be able to help him with the secretarial side of his business because she will be too busy doing translations for Charles. Though Helen takes over Laura's duties, Mike is distracted by Helen's glamour and finds it impossible to fit her into his small?scale business. When things don't work out between Laura and Charles Payne, she resumes her duties at Mike's. Laura is not flattered, however, when Mike confesses that he finds her more comfortable to work with than Helen.
