Laura and Mike worry that, though they are spending a lot of time together, they have not become lovers. Helen decides that if the friendship between Laura and Mike is not working, she and Phil should introduce each of them to new friends. Both Mike and Laura are puzzled when Phil and Helen invite them to a party and then keep separating them and forcing their company on strangers. After the party Mike returns to Laura's flat for coffee and resolves to make love to her. Eventually Mike and Laura decide to ignore the troublesome details conspiring to keep them apart, and go together into Laura's bedroom.
