TV Program: Algebra: In Simplest Terms: Ellipse and Hyperbola

This epsisode covers the other two types of conic sections: ellipses and hyperbolas. Ellipses are centered around two foci. It is on this basis that instruments used to destroy kidney stones without surgery are designed, by setting up shocks on one focus, and position- ing the stone at the other focus. Conic sections are used in designing symphony halls, dams, bridges, and any number of things we take for granted.
