Linear Relations
Any line that can be graphed can also be represented by an equation in the form y=mx+b. These linear equations are useful because once we find the equation we can find any point along the line. In the equation, x and y refer to the horizontal and vertical coordinates. m is the slope; how much the line rises for every unit we move horizontally. b is the point at which the line intersects the y axis. Examples used are in yacht designing, and determining the temperature from a frequency of cricket chirps.
