Circle and Parabola
In this first of two programs on conic sections, circles and parabolas are discussed. A circle is a locus of points a set distance (radius) from another point, while a parabola is a locus of points a set distance from a point (focus) and a line (directrix). The equations that define each of these shapes are introduced, and as always, uses for these concepts are explored, particularly the use of circles in determining the epicenters of earthquakes.
