Absolute Value
This episode deals with absolute value, which is essentially considering a number not as positive or negative, but as an absolute distance on a number line. When considering blood pressure for example, we are not concerned with whether the pressure is too high or too low (both are equally dangerous). What we want to know is how far it deviates from the norm. Other things considered in the show are ratios used in creating gunpowder, using algebra to calculate distance for a glider to land, and the acceptable amount of defective chips at a potato chip factory.
