Maria Callas: Living and Dying for Art and Love
Maria Callas was perhaps the greatest opera singer of all time. Her talent was enormous, but her life was tragic. She was consumed by art and love, and her life ended after she lost both. As her voice began to fail, the love of her life, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis deserted her, and she died alone and heartbroken in Paris at the age of 53. In "Maria Callas: Living and Dying for the Art of Love," people who knew her well recollect her immense talent and her tragic death. Opera stars Placido Domingo and Grace Brumbry, Franco Zefferilli, Antonion Pappano (Director of London's Royal Opera), John Copley (opera director), Dame Judy Dench and others remember her with passionate admiration, comparing her to the character Tosca-a role Callas made famous. The documentary also features extensive B&W footage, stills from her opera performances, and clips from interviews with Callas herself.
