Queen Elizabeth II turned 80 on April 21, 2006. She has served the United Kingdom for over half a century. "The Queen at 80" commemorates the life and long reign of this popular monarch. Through extensive archival footage "The Queen at 80" paints a sympathetic but candid portrait of the young girl who woke up one morning to discover that she had become destiny's child. It explores how she survived the terrible shock of her father's early death and became, for a glorious summer or two, the shining embodiment of a new Elizabethan age. The film also depicts how, in her quiet way, Queen Elizabeth repeatedly demonstrated how her greatest strength - her priceless ability to be the calm center of any storm, to keep her head when many around her were losing theirs - outweighed her human weaknesses.
