New Orleans Project, Part 5
In the first half of The "This Old House Hour", host Kevin O'Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram visit the neighborhood jazz clubs of Frenchman Street, the local's alternative to Bourbon Street, where the music scene is still alive and well. At the project house in Holy Cross, homeowner Rashida Ferdinand receives surprising news, her contractor cannot complete the job. Although Rashida is hiring someone new she is filling in herself to bridge the gap between builders. Rashida has managed to obtain rough inspections and spray foam insulation gets underway in the new addition. Norm visits carpenter Matt Thompson at his renovated house and shop in By water to see how he is milling the historically accurate French doors out of Spanish cedar. In the second half of the Hour, on Ask This Old House, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey helps a homeowner install a pellet stove that will provide supplemental heat during the cold winter months. In the Ask This Old House loft, landscape contractor Roger Cook shows Kevin several different types of lawn mowers that do not require gasoline.
