New Orleans Project, Part 4
In the first half of The "This Old House Hour", master carpenter Norm Abram takes host Kevin O'Connor on a ferry ride across the Mississippi River to Algiers Point to see how the first This Old House New Orleans project, completed in 1990, held up during Hurricane Katrina. Back in Holy Cross, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey shows Norm the plumbing layout and how HVAC contractor Raul Mena plans to heat and cool the house. At Musicians? Village, founder Branford Marsalis shows Kevin around and introduces him to the youngest resident in the village, saxophonist Calvin Johnson, who joins Branford in a duet of ?When The Saints Go Marching In.? Despite debris at the jobsite, landscape architect Brian Sublette starts working with homeowner Rashida Ferdinand to draw up a plan for her yard and gardens. In the second half of the Hour, on Ask This Old House, the expert crew celebrates the 150th episode with special projects that parents and kids can work on together. Richard shows how to build a soccer goal using PVC plumbing pipes. In the Ask This Old House loft, general contractor Tom Silva demonstrates how to make a pair of stilts out of wood. Landscape contractor Roger Cook shows a family how to build a sandbox and make replicas of fossils.
