In the first half of The "This Old House Hour", host Kevin O'Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram arrive to find the landscape coming together with a new fence, sod, and plants. General contractor Tom Silva fabricates and installs a laminate countertop for the laundry area. Kitchen designer Kathy Marshall shows homeowner Chris Flynn how to design a bathroom on a budget, as she takes her tile shopping at a local home center. Tile contractor Joe Ferrante gives homeowner Liz Bagley a lesson in installing subway tile in her new bathroom. In the second half of the Hour, Kevin helps a homeowner select wall-to-wall carpet and install it properly with the assistance of a professional installer. Back in the Ask This Old House loft, Kevin, Tom, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, and landscape contractor Roger Cook ask "What is it?" Showing Kevin a few tips for using a table saw safely, Tom demonstrates a new type of emergency brake that helps prevent injury.
