Ray Charles: The Genius of Soul
Eight months after his death at age 73, revolutionary musician Ray Charles once again proved his lasting power by posthumously winning eight 2005 Grammy Awards. The sweep included Best Album for his final new release, Genius Loves Company, and best record for his duet with singer Norah Jones. Charles, whose groundbreaking blend of gospel, soul, rock, jazz, and country earned him a Grammy for lifetime achievement in 1987, remains a timeless fixture on the American music scene. "American Masters" continues the celebration with an encore presentation of Ray Charles: The Genius of Soul as part of the "American Masters" 20th anniversary season.
