PBS TeacherLine and CDE Partner to Provide Online Professional Development for Teachers of English Language Learners
Rocky Mountain PBS and the Colorado Department of Education's (CDE) Language, Culture and Equity Unit offer five online courses that focus on the skills and techniques teachers can use to help English language learners accelerate their mastery of English while staying on track with classroom instruction. These courses provide a quick immersion (three weeks online) into techniques for teaching language arts topics to ELL students in early elementary classes. Each course is 15 hours/1 semester credit and lasts three weeks. Planned start dates listed below, additional sections will be added based on demand.

Supporting ELLs: Reading Fluency (Grades 2-5), Jan. 13, 2010
Supporting ELLs: Oral Language Development, (PreK-3), Jan. 13, 2010
Supporting ELLs: Assessing Language Development (PreK-3), March 31, 2010

Teachers and paraprofessionals may take courses individually, or complete the series to earn a five-hour certificate in "Enhancing ELL Instruction" from Adams State College.
NEW CDE Tuition Reimbursement Program
Registration fees are $99 per course. However, CDE offers a 50 percent tuition reimbursement to eligible teachers. Go to rmpbs.org/teacherline to view eligibility requirements and apply.
