If you are participating in a company pension plan or other private plan such as an Individual Retirement Account, you may find that your retirement assets exceed your retirement needs. These excess retirement assets can be given during your lifetime, or upon your death, to Rocky Mountain PBS. Donating excess retirement assets avoids the double tax bite, since these assets receive both income tax and estate tax when left as part of an estate.
As of today, you can donate up to $100,000 from your IRA tax-free. However, you do not receive any tax deduction from such a donation; the gift is simply donated without any taxes taken from it. This also has the side benefit of reducing the size of your estate and may help your heirs avoid estate taxes.
Planned gifts to Rocky Mountain PBS may be designated to go to the
Rocky Mountain PBS General Endowment Fund. Gifts to the General Endowment Fund are permanently invested for the future while the earnings help to provide quality public television programs and services.
