Through a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the SAM project was created by volunteers of Rocky Mountain PBS. "SAM" was established in 2000 to identify, document and preserve the history of Rocky Mountain PBS relating to volunteers, programming, community outreach and administrative operations. The SAM Committee Chair is a member of the Volunteer Board. Archiving is done on a continuous basis and more volunteers are always needed.
Volunteers work daily collecting, cataloging and digitizing photographs and memorabilia, perusing written documents, and conducting oral history interviews. A database for SAM has been created using Filemaker Pro to maintain a permanent record of all archived information.
Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis to identify current and historic photographs, transcribe oral history interviews, research the station's history and to enter information into the database. Help is also needed to preserve written histories of station events and activities and to assist in digitizing station memorabilia. Training and supplies are provided to SAM volunteers.
To volunteer for SAM or to learn more about the archive project, please call SAM's voicemail phone at Rocky Mountain PBS, 303-620-5734, or e-mail the SAM Committee.
